Blue Mountains Historic Railways Tour
Blue Mountains Railway Relics!

Sydney's Blue Mountains region is awash with `lost' railway relics! From hidden tunnels, cuttings & bridges to steep grades and impossible inclines, this spectacular sandstone area offers the rail enthusiast, bushwalker or photographer a wealth of appealing material. Even today, stone `pagodas' still echo to the sound of steam as restored locomotives of Lithgow's Zig Zag Railway operate along the western Mountain's scenic escarpment.

Our tour takes in many of these sights with opportunities to get `up close and personal' to your favourite theme. Your guide has tramped the Blue Mountains for over 30 years, exploring railway and mining relics so he is able to taylor this tour to suit your needs and your interests.

`Railway Relics' 4WD tour highlights:

  • surviving cuttings and bridges from the original single track main line which crossed the Mountains in the 1860s
  • steep (54 degree!) inclines which served the early shale and coal mines
  • the remarkable series of 1:24 gradient and 5 chain radius `S' bends of the abandoned, standard gauge, Wolgan Valley Railway
  • Mt Victoria's wonderful `Trains, Planes & Automobiles'
  • the wonderful Victorian stone viaducts of the Lithgow Zig Zag Railway
